If you’ve ever wondered what Chardonnay really tastes like, you’ve come to the right place.
What do we mean by “really tastes like”? Well, most bottlings of Chardonnay — particularly those that come from California — are known for their creamy and toasty oak impressions, characteristics that stem primarily from aging in oak barrels. Those qualities can “mask” the fruit flavors of Chardonnay. However, when Chardonnay is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, the flavors of the grape variety shine through.
The Monkey Puzzle Chardonnay provides a taste of “real” Chardonnay, as it received absolutely no exposure to oak. So, what you’ll smell and taste are primarily fruit flavors, ranging from apple to banana, and from peach to tropical fruit.
The Chardonnay grapes were grown in Chile’s Loncomilla Valley, south of Santiago. There, the maritime influence of the Pacific Ocean is ideal for cool-weather varieties such as Chardonnay — which, when made by Monkey Puzzle’s vintner, actually tastes like Chardonnay. -Producer
