Domaine Ponsot was born in 1872 in Burgundy. The Domaine, founded by William Ponsot, covers some of the most prestigious vineyards in the area, such as Clos de la Roche, Clos des Monts Luisants, Gevrey-Chambertine Les Combottes and Charmes Chambertin and since 1934 has marketed its wines not only in France but also abroad, especially in the United States.
Laurent, Catherine and Stephanie Ponsot, current owners of the Domaine today offer authentic wines, representing the richness of the terroir and varietal, continuing with energy and passion the family tradition, which reflects the agricultural world, without the need for certification but acting with extreme respect for the land and fruit.
The 2014 Clos Vougeot Cuvée Vieilles Vignes took a little more coaxing from the glass than its fellow Grand Crus. Quite opaque at first, the nose is deep with a mixture of red and black fruit (blacker than Laurent Ponsot's Grand Crus from Gevrey for example). The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannin and grippy in the mouth.
