The spirit gained prominence in 1949, when it was served at the founding ceremony of the People’s Republic of China. Since then, it has held a significant role in Chinese diplomacy, famously enjoyed at state banquets and gifted to foreign dignitaries, including the U.S. President Richard Nixon during his historic visit to China in 1972.

Moutai has since become a symbol of prestige and celebration in Chinese culture. Today, it’s produced by the Kweichow Moutai Company, a state-owned enterprise and one of the most valuable liquor companies in the world.

The Unique Moutai Process

Producing Moutai is a labor-intensive process that takes over a year to complete, involving multiple fermentations and distillations. The spirit is then aged in ceramic jars for several years before blending and bottling. This meticulous approach ensures the consistency and depth of character that Moutai is famous for.
